Sally Field's 80th birthday is the celebration Hollywood needed this week, Media Crew. The two-time Oscar winner turned 80 on Friday, Nov. 6, and instead of a red carpet or a big staged party, she marked it the most Sally Field way possible — barefoot in her own kitchen, holding a bottle of wine in one hand and an empty glass in the other, with a smirk for the camera.

"So far, 80 feels like 79…but with a lot more wine," she captioned the rare photo she shared on Instagram.

Hollywood showed up in her comments

The love poured in fast. Andy Cohen called her "the best neighbor I ever had," director Barry Jenkins simply wrote "QUEEN," and Ross Mathews, Carrie Preston and Bonnie Hunt were among the friends and fans wishing her well. Her Steel Magnolias co-star Julia Roberts sent a birthday message that Field shared to her Stories, calling her "a beautiful human" and "a shining light." Her son Sam Greisman also posted a throwback photo of the two of them at the 2000 Screen Actors Guild Awards to honor the day.

Six decades, and she is still winning

Field has been on our screens since the 1960s, from her early TV days in Gidget and The Flying Nun to the performances that made her a legend — her Oscar-winning turns in Norma Rae (1979) and Places in the Heart (1984), plus beloved roles in Sybil, Mrs. Doubtfire, Forrest Gump, Steel Magnolias, ER and Brothers & Sisters.

And she is not coasting on nostalgia. In September she won her fourth Emmy for the Netflix film Remarkably Bright Creatures, proving that at 80, Sally Field is still collecting trophies and stealing scenes.

Why this one hits home

There is something about the way she chose to celebrate — at home, comfortable, laughing at herself — that feels like a lesson for all of us. No filters, no fuss, just gratitude and a good glass of wine. From teen sitcom star to one of the most respected actresses of her generation, Field has grown up in front of us, and generations of families have grown up watching her.

So, Media Crew, raise a glass with us: what is your all-time favorite Sally Field role — Norma Rae, Mrs. Doubtfire, or Mama Gump in Forrest Gump? Drop your pick in the comments, and keep it locked to Allegedly Media for more entertainment news.
